Focus Vision in Woolloongabba is looking for a friendly and reliable Medical Receptionist to join our team. This role would be ideal for a 2nd or 3rd year Optometry student looking to gain valuable experience in an ophthalmology and refractive surgery clinic.

Focus Vision is a Laser Eye Surgery clinic in Woolloongabba, striving to deliver leading patient experience and visual outcomes from laser eye surgery. We are seeking a dedicated and detailoriented casual Medical Receptionist to join our team. As the first point of contact for patients, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service and ensuring the smooth flow of daily operations.

Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients with a warm and professional demeanour.
- Manage appointment and procedure scheduling and coordinate with medical staff to optimize clinic efficiency.
- Answer phone calls, respond to enquiries, and provide accurate information regarding clinic services.
- Verify patient information and assist in the completion of required forms.
- Maintain electronic medical records with confidentiality and accuracy.
- Process payments, issue receipts, and reconcile daily transactions.
- Tracking and follow up of patient's journey and treatment.
- Monitor and manage the waiting area to ensure a comfortable and organized environment.
- Handle administrative tasks, including document management, data entry and reporting.
- Stay updated on clinic policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
- Possible clinical tasks including performing scans for patients.
Requirements
- Experience as a medical receptionist or a similar role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of VIP or similar medical software is favourable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic understanding of laser and refractive procedures is advantageous but not required.
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Customer-focused attitude and the ability to multitask.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Must be available for Saturday work.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Remuneration negotiable according to experience.

New Graduate Optometrist – Hervey Bay (Start 2027). Vision for Life Institute is seeking a motivated new-graduate Optometrist to join our Hervey Bay practice in early 2027. You’ll work alongside 5 Ophthalmologists across all adult subspecialties and gain extensive experience in post-operative care, including cataract and refractive patients. Responsibilities include patient assessment, post-op support, communication with referring optometrists, and assisting with ongoing care coordination. We offer $100,000 per annum plus super, strong clinical mentorship, and excellent exposure to advanced ophthalmic care. Therapeutic endorsement required.

About the Role
Full-time opportunity for a new Graduate at our Hervey Bay Practice. Some of the highlights of this position include:
- The opportunity to work alongside 9 Ophthalmologists
- Work in all sub-speciality areas of adult Ophthalmology: Cataract/Refractive, Cornea, Glaucoma, Medical/Surgical Retina, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Oculoplastics and Uveitis.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical support to refractive and cataract doctors at Vision for Life Institute, including examination of post-LASIK, post-cataract, and post-graft patients, and determination of target endpoints for presbyopic patients seeking a surgical correction of their vision.
- Provide advice, reassurance, and support for patients after surgery.
- Refer patients with any clinically significant concerns to the appropriate doctor for management.
- Provide patients with details of appropriate local optometrists for ongoing care, and organising appointments where necessary
- Liaise and correspond with referring optometrists regarding ongoing care of post-op patients.
- Complete administrative tasks, as necessary.
Qualifications
- Strong focus on patient care
- High level of professionalism
- Communicate well with patients, providing advice, empathy, and reassurance
- Maintain good communication with doctors and staff
- Adaptability to different doctors’ protocols and post-op protocols of new procedures
- Good writing and record-keeping skills
- Effective time and priority management skills
- Be able to quickly become familiarised with the practice management system and booking screens
- Knowledge of main requirements for patient assessment and aftercare relating to cataract and laser eye surgery
- Be a registered optometrist in Australia with Therapeutic drugs prescribing qualification
- Membership of Optometrists Association Australia is advantageous
